Before you begin
Welcome to BioAlign Care. This guide walks you through setting up your home safety system from the box to a working dashboard. Take your time — you can stop and come back at any step. Read all the way through once before you start.
Have these ready:
- Your home Wi-Fi name and password
- A smartphone or tablet connected to the internet
- The included ChArUco calibration mat (a printed checkerboard used to calibrate your cameras)
- A power outlet near where the appliance will sit
- A UPS battery backup (uninterruptible power supply) — not included; purchase one separately. Strongly recommended so the system stays on during power outages.
- About an hour of uninterrupted time
What's in the box: the BioAlign appliance (edge server), Wi-Fi access point (AP), 4 cameras with mounts, 2 ceiling fall-detection radar sensors, 1 heart-rate/breathing radar sensor, the tablet, the ChArUco mat, and cabling. (A UPS battery backup is not included — see above.)
1
Plan where everything goes
Deciding placement first makes the rest easy. Here's where each device belongs:
Cameras (×4)High-traffic living areas: kitchen, main hallway, living room, and family room. Mount high on a wall with a clear, wide view of the floor.
Fall radar (×2)On the ceiling, centered — one in the bathroom, one over the main open area of the bedroom.
Heart-rate / breathing radar (×1)At the head of the bed, on the wall or ceiling directly above where the person sleeps.
Appliance, UPS & APA central, ventilated spot (a shelf or cabinet) near a power outlet — ideally roughly central to the home for best Wi-Fi coverage to the sensors.
Privacy tipCameras are for safety monitoring — avoid pointing them into bathrooms or directly at beds. The radar sensors (not cameras) handle those private areas.
2
Power & connect the appliance
- Place your UPS battery backup (purchased separately) near your outlet and plug it into the wall. The UPS keeps the system running during short power outages.
- Plug the BioAlign appliance into one of the UPS's battery-backed outlets.
- Connect the Wi-Fi access point (AP) to the appliance's Ethernet port with the included cable, then plug the AP into a UPS outlet as well.
- Leave everything powered but do not press the appliance's power button yet.
No UPS yet?A UPS isn't included and must be purchased separately. You can plug the appliance and AP straight into a wall outlet to get started, but we strongly recommend adding a UPS so monitoring continues during a power outage.
Why the AP?The access point creates a private, secure network just for your cameras and sensors — they never touch your home Wi-Fi, and it all works out of the box.
3
Mount the cameras
- Choose a high spot on the wall (about 7–8 ft / 2–2.4 m up) with a clear view across the room's floor.
- Use the included bracket and screws to secure each camera; angle it downward so the floor is well within view.
- Repeat for all four rooms you chose in Step 1.
The cameras are pre-configured to join the appliance's private network automatically — there is nothing to type in. You'll simply confirm they're online later.
4
Mount the radar sensors
- Fall sensors (×2): mount flat on the ceiling, centered in the room — one in the bathroom, one over the open area of the bedroom. These detect falls without any camera.
- Heart-rate / breathing sensor (×1): mount at the head of the bed, on the wall or ceiling directly above the sleeping position, facing the chest.
Like the cameras, the sensors are pre-configured — just mount and power them. No pairing needed.
5
Turn it on
- Press the power button on the appliance.
- Wait 1–2 minutes for it to fully start up. (The status light will settle when it's ready.)
6
Connect the appliance to your home Wi-Fi
- On your phone or tablet, open Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network named “BioAlign” (broadcast by the appliance during setup).
- Open a web browser and go to
http://192.168.4.1
- Choose your home Wi-Fi network from the list and enter its password.
- Tap Apply. The appliance will save it and reboot.
- Wait 1–2 minutes, then reconnect your phone/tablet to your normal home Wi-Fi.
If the page doesn't loadMake sure you're still connected to the “BioAlign” network (not your home Wi-Fi) and that the address is exactly http://192.168.4.1 (no “https”).
7
Install the security certificate (one time)
Your appliance uses secure HTTPS on your home network. Installing this one small certificate tells your browser to trust it, so you get a clean padlock with no warnings — on this box and any BioAlign box you ever connect to.
- On the device you'll use to manage the system, open a browser and go to
https://bioalign.local/setup/ca.crt to download the certificate file (ca.crt).
Then install it as a trusted certificate for your device:
Windows (Chrome / Edge)
- Double-click the downloaded
ca.crt file → Install Certificate…
- Store Location: Current User → Next.
- Select “Place all certificates in the following store” → Browse → Trusted Root Certification Authorities → OK → Next → Finish.
- Click Yes on the security prompt.
- Fully close and reopen your browser.
Mac (Safari / Chrome)
- Double-click
ca.crt — Keychain Access opens; add it to the login keychain.
- Find “BioAlign Kiosk LAN Root CA”, double-click it, expand Trust.
- Set “When using this certificate” to Always Trust, then close the window and enter your password.
- Fully close and reopen your browser.
iPhone / iPad
- Open
https://bioalign.local/setup/ca.crt in Safari → Allow the profile download.
- Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → tap the downloaded profile → Install.
- Then go to Settings → General → About → Certificate Trust Settings and turn ON full trust for “BioAlign Kiosk LAN Root CA.”
Android
- Download
ca.crt.
- Open Settings → Security → Encryption & credentials → Install a certificate → CA certificate, then select the file. (Exact wording varies by phone.)
Firefox (any OS)
- Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security → Certificates → View Certificates.
- Authorities tab → Import → select
ca.crt → check “Trust this CA to identify websites” → OK.
After installing, fully restart your browser, then continue to the next step.
8
Set up your appliance
- In your browser, go to
https://bioalign.local/setup — you should see a clean padlock (no warning). If you still see a warning, revisit Step 7.
- Follow the on-screen wizard:
- Account — create your administrator login (email + a strong password). You'll use this to manage the system.
- Features — confirm the options included with your plan.
- Activate — enter the activation code from your welcome email/packing slip.
- Done — the appliance finishes provisioning.
- When it finishes, sign in with the administrator account you just created.
9
Add your family & residents
- Open the Family Dashboard at
https://bioalign.local/alf/family (or from the tablet menu).
- Add each resident — the person being cared for. Enter their name and room. This is who the cameras and sensors watch over.
- Add family members who should have access, and choose what each can see (family members see the Family Dashboard; the resident gets their own dashboard and the Senior App).
A “resident” is the person receiving care; “family members” are the loved ones who monitor and support them.
10
Create a kiosk PIN for the resident
The tablet runs as a simple, locked “kiosk” with big buttons. Each person signs in with a short PIN.
- In the Family Dashboard, open Settings → Tablet PINs.
- Set a 4-digit PIN for the resident (and for any family member who will use the tablet).
- Choose PINs that are easy for them to remember but not obvious (avoid 1234 / birthdays).
11
Create your rooms
Tell the system which rooms are in your home so each camera and sensor can be placed correctly.
- In the Family Dashboard, open Settings → Rooms.
- Add a room for each area that has a camera or sensor — for example Kitchen, Hallway, Living Room, Family Room, Bedroom, Bathroom.
- For the room where the person sleeps, choose the Bedroom type; use Common area for the rest.
12
Place & calibrate your cameras
Now tell each camera which room it's in and calibrate it. Calibration uses the included ChArUco mat (the printed checkerboard) so fall and gait detection are accurate.
- In the Family Dashboard, open Settings → Camera Calibration.
- For each camera, use the drop-down to select the room it's in, and confirm it shows Online.
- Lay the ChArUco mat flat on the floor where that camera can see it clearly and fully.
- Click Calibrate and follow the on-screen prompts. Then move the mat and repeat for the next camera — one at a time.
Good lighting and a fully-visible mat give the best calibration. You can re-assign a room or re-calibrate any time from this screen.
If a camera shows OfflineCheck that it's powered and mounted within range of the access point, then reopen this screen.
13
Using the tablet (kiosk)
- Wake the tablet — it opens to the BioAlign menu.
- The person taps their name and enters their PIN.
- They'll see large buttons for the surfaces they can use — the Family Dashboard, their own Dashboard, and the Senior App for daily activities and exercises.
- Tap Menu at any time to return home or switch to a different person.
The tablet stays locked to BioAlign — there's no web browsing to get lost in. It returns to the sign-in screen automatically when idle.
